Hello and Welcome...
I am Doug Peters. I am a designer and an artist.
That is, I make my living as a logo designer, a graphic designer and a very adept website designer. And yet my passion is for art, and I would love to truly be ab artist and simply explore art for art's sake. Yet, even then, the artist is tied to his commissions and what he promises someone.
I suppose if I were as famous as Picasso was in his life, I could do exactly what I wanted to. Or at least I think I could afford to.
As a web designer my works are often brought down after a few years. Sometimes I put up temporary websites such as event registrations that are not needed after the event has past. Sometimes the business fails. And sometimes they simply update the website and that layout design is lost forever.
To top that off I am usually working with small businesses that are pinching every dollar, which is usually why they come to me in the first place. I tend to offer my clients a great brand concentric web presence that is easy to use and maintain, and that is also well search optimized and page load reduced. I also have a reputation for delivering all kinds of different projects on a strict budget.
Strict budget... sigh. Those strict budgets have actually been my downfall.
So what is this design, you ask? This blah? This is simply me writing. There is no design here. I am just writing. Maybe I'll do some more of it. But this is just a domain name that I liked which I plan on doing something with, some day. I could use it to link to all of my sites, but as an artist I am quite honestly sick and tired of link building. I hate it. It consumes all my days and nights just because Google likes to see backlinks.
But that's not what this domain is going to be about, appeasing the network gods (Google, Yahoo & MSN).
As many web designers, sometimes I stumble across a domain name that I like and it is still available. My being a designer, an illustrator, a cartoonist, probably played a great deal into my liking this domain name and registering it. This is one of those domains that I just like so much that I think it will make a great brand for someone, some day.
Maybe I'll actually put some of my art here. Maybe I'll actually share some of my web design techniques. Maybe I'll just write about nothing. Maybe I'll explore the one thing that I have not yet been able to accomplish all my life, being an artist.
LOL... maybe I'll introduce myself as a web host, a domain name registrar. I am those, as well.
If you arrived here looking for a design template for your own website, you might try %T-T% or Flash Web Design Templates. However, be sure to remember that even though premade layouts can work, the end result is a website that is branded to look like many others, and it still takes a considerable effort to customize them and put them online. On top of that, most pre-made templates are merely design concepts that hyave all sorts of inherint problems with search engine crawlers that truly should be addressed before going live, and search engine optimizing the website could cost considerably more when it is not done as a part of the original design concept. I know because I am a web designer that believes in search optimization as a part of the design package. Plus, those two template sites I just linked to are mine.
Alternatively, it is much more ideal to have a custom web design created especially for your business. This way you and your designer have complete control over your brand, as well as its online presentation, allowing your company's personality to shine through. My links come at the end of this page, but you could also do it yourself. The larger issue is actually time. It takes a considerable amount of time to design, develop and publish a professional online presence. If you don't know how, it will also take a considerable effort to learn, as well. That said, no one is more dedicated to your business than you. If you are willing to invest the time, I do run the Web Design And Development Group on Google Groups and we would be glad to help you out when you get stuck or just want to discuss options and techniques.
There are so many options when it comes to website design that it is ridiculous. Very few "professional web design services" even get it right, because search optimization (also referred to as search engine optimization, or SEO), is actually a part of the design and development process, and most agencies don't include it when they deliver you a finished product. And if they do, most don't even understand it, so they are actually delivering an inferior product that still needs to be optimized by a real expert, anyway.
